19th January 2014
I’m delighted to have been asked to attend a 2-day meeting at the European Commission in Brussels, where I will hear first-hand about EU policies and funding programmes.
I will get to meet with senior European Commission staff, including the EU commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science Máire Geoghegan-Quinn. I look forward to talking to her about funding opportunities for Ireland under Horizon 2020 – the EU’s new programme for research and innovation. There is a billion euro available for Ireland under Horizon 2020 so it’s exciting to be able to meet the Commissioner herself and talk to her about this programme.
I will also meet representatives of the European Parliament, and the Irish Permanent Representation to the EU and engage with them on Irish issues and how they are progressed at EU level.
The trip is being organised by Women for Election and the European Commission Representation in Ireland and 20 local and European election candidates have been invited to attend.
