I have written to the Minister of Education to outline my concern that the recently released patronage report for the North Wicklow Educate Together does not include Greystones, Kilcoole, Delgany, or Newcastle in its feeder area.
The 3 defined feeder areas are:
While the Report does state that the school ‘is also intended to serve any potential overflow demand for pupil places from the Greystones and Ballinteer feeder areas’, I do not believe that this is a strong enough commitment to provide places for the children of North Wicklow beyond Bray.
The patronage for the North Wicklow School was based on the demand shown by parents in Wicklow, including over 460 parents from the Greystones, Kilcoole, Delgany and Newcastle areas. The Greystones Educate Together National School is the largest in Wicklow, and yet its children will not be able to attend a secondary school of their preferred ethos less than 5 kms from their school. This decision will also adversely affect those children attending the Wicklow Educate Together National School, who will now not be able to access a Educate Together second level school. The North Wicklow Educate Together Group have expressed their concerned about this decision.
I ask that the Minister redraws the catchment boundaries to include the areas that have demonstrated demand for the school.
