I’m delighted to report that businesses and retailers on Church Road will receive priority water supplies over the coming weeks.
The recent water restrictions impacted very badly on some retailers and businesses in the town. Many were forced to turn customers away due to a reduction in water and at least one had to close down. Restaurants and retailers are telling me that the lack of certainty around water pressure was damaging their livelihoods.
Wicklow County Council and the HSE are working with businesses to ensure that they can remain open during this water shortage, particularly in light of Gourmet Greystones and the bank holiday weekend.
Unfortunately, the problem still exists for local residents and domestic supplies. I encourage WCC and Irish Water to communicate updates regularly, as the uncertainty around supply makes it very difficult for residents to plan their day. In the meantime, Stephen Donnelly is trying to raise the issue in the Dáil, and I will continue to liaise with Irish Water to get as swift a resolution as possible.
