In September, Wicklow County Council will decide whether to increase or decrease the Local Property Tax by up to 15%.
Indications so far are that Government will reduce funding to the local authorities so that WCC’s overall budget will remain approx. the same as last year.
This could mean that a 15% reduction in LPT would take 2.5m out of WCC’s discretionary budget of 10m.
However, on the flip side to this, residents in Wicklow pay on average the fourth highest property tax in the country.
What do you think? Would you be happy to see a reduction in WCC if it meant that there was also a reduction in your LPT? Or do you think that the impact of a LPT reduction on WCC services would be too great?
