November 20, 2014 – Independent Councillor Jennifer Whitmore is delighted that Irish Rail is going above and beyond commitments made to her regarding accessibility for Kilcoole Train Station.
Whitmore says: “I have been in discussions with Irish Rail about making the Kilcoole train station wheelchair and buggy accessible since July of this year. In August, they told me that they would replace the turnstile gate with a gate that would allow increased accessibility.
After further discussion, they have informed me in the last few days that not only will they be installing a new accessible gate, but they will also install a new ramp with safety rails up to the platform.
This is great news as the ramp that is there is very steep and would be difficult for a wheelchair user to access by themselves. The work should go to tender in next couple of weeks should be completed by the end of January 2015.
