I am delighted to be able tell you that the Department of Education has approved a new primary school for Greystones.
Bringing a new primary school to Greystones is something that I have worked on for a number of years with Stephen Donnelly TD and it is really exciting that this project will now become a reality. We will continue to have this school located in the most suitable place, namely the Charlesland area.
Over the past few years, a large number of parents have come to me distressed to learn that they wouldn’t get a place for their child in junior infants. It was particularly difficult for those parents that had just moved to the area or did not belong to a religious faith. Existing primary schools in the area worked hard together to try to accommodate as many children as they could but this was not a long-term solution, particularly in light of the fact that County Wicklow has one of the highest pupil-to-teacher ratios in the country.
So I am delighted that this school will address this issue and make the journey to education a whole lot less stressful for parents in the area.
It’s been a long road – but here’s what we’ve done to get here…
