Kilcoole Train Station now Wheelchair Accessible

26th May 2015

Independent Councillor Jennifer Whitmore is delighted that Kilcoole Train Station has finally been made wheelchair and buggy accessible, thanks to a new gate at the station.

Whitmore says: “I first raised the issue of accessibility to Kilcoole Station with Irish Rail last year. Wheelchair users and parents with young children were unable to get through the narrow, turnstile gate at the station. This meant they couldn’t catch trains or get across to the beach.

“Following a number of discussions with Irish Rail, they agreed to replace the old turnstile gate with a wheelchair accessible one.  This has now been completed. They also have installed a raised platform to allow for safer crossing of the tracks for people that want to get to the beach. And, over the coming weeks, they will install a new ramp with safety rails up to the platform.

“The works carried out by Irish Rail will make a huge difference to the people of Kilcoole. I would like to thank Irish Rail, as they have been very supportive of this proposal and incorporated all the suggestions I made into their plans.”
