I was delighted today to see Wicklow County Council launch its new text messaging service. A number of months ago, I put forward the proposal that the Council develop an alert service and it’s great that it has been implemented.
The text messaging service will allow people to sign-up to receive a text message from the Council in the event of severe weather disruptions, emergency road works and closures, instances of flooding and planned water disruptions. It can also be refined to only text if something occurs in a particular municipal district, making sure it only provides relevant information to those that need it.
The ability of the Council to be able to quickly and easily communicate with the community is invaluable, particularly during winter months when storms and high winds can cause havoc on our roads and in our towns and villages. I would like to thank the Council officials for getting this project up and running and I would encourage everyone to make use of this great service.
