Helping Charlesland residents go green and save money!

10th June 2016

Biobag2A few months ago, some residents of Charlesland came to me to concerned about the introduction of the new pay-by-weight bin charges and how it would impact on them. I had already been working with a company called BioBag Ireland and they
offered to help us encourage people to compost more – and save money in waste disposal.

BioBag gave us a few of their composting caddies and liners to trial with residents. These caddies sit on your worktop and you simply fill the liner provided with your waste food. Once the liner is full, you just tie it up and pop it into your brown bin. We set up a Facebook group, called Charlesland going Green to help us follow how people were getting on with the caddies.

I must say that the caddies were a great success. Interestingly, not only did people compost all their waste food, they also began to recycle more and to reduce the food they were wasting.

So now we are rolling out the programme out to more 50 households in the area to try make Charlesland a 100% composting zone.

If you are a resident of Charlesland and would like a free caddy to try out, please email [email protected] or sign up to Charlesland going Green on Facebook.
