Very proud to be Cathaoirleach of Greystones Municipal District

28th July 2016

Last night, I was very honoured to formally accept the position of Cathaoirleach of Greystones Municipal District.

We are very fortunate in this district – we have a beautiful area to live and a fantastic community to be part of. And I hope to continue to work with you all over the coming months to make it even better.

When elected, a key focus of my campaign was to promote Greystones as a place for companies to invest in – particularly on the IDA land. Greystones ticks all the boxes – it has the transport links, a highly educated workforce, is close to major universities, the city centre and airport. All that whilst retaining itโ€™s small town, community feel. It is because of these factors, that I still believe that a great opportunity exists to attract high tech companies to our area. I will continue to work with the IDA, council & tech companies to make that a reality.

I will also continue my work on other community projects, such as the refurbishment of the Greystones playground to make it an inclusive one for all children. I look forward to working with the council officials on this and many other important initiatives. We have a very dedicated team of officials here in the Greystones District, without whose efforts the district would not be such a great place to live.

I do, however, believe that we need to communicate and engage with the community better. I hope to have meetings around the district over the coming months so we are as accessible to people as possible. And I would like to engage the younger and older residents better – I think sometimes that their voices are not heard in our decision making.

I would like to thank my fellow Councillors for their support – we have a very strong cross-party team and it definitely make achieving good things for the district much easier. And I would like to thank all my supporters, and friends for your help over the last few years.

Before I sign off, I would to express my unending thanks to my husband, Tony, and my family. This job is the type of job that takes over and becomes all encompassing – without their support and understanding it would be impossible for me to take on this role. So thank you.

(PS my 5 yr old was very happy that I was made Mayor last night – apparently Donald Trump wanted the job too and now he can’t have it ๐Ÿ˜‰
